The 2026 FIFA World Cup is co-hosted by three nations: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The USA hosts the most matches (60), while Canada and Mexico each host matches at two venues. All three host nations qualify automatically.
Argentina are the defending FIFA World Cup champions, having won the 2022 tournament in Qatar. They enter World Cup 2026 as the top-ranked FIFA team in the world and are drawn into Group J.
UEFA (Europe) has the most representatives with 16 teams, followed by CAF (Africa) with 10, AFC (Asia) with 9, CONCACAF (North/Central America & Caribbean) with 6, and CONMEBOL (South America) with 6. OFC (Oceania) has 1 team.
Each confederation ran its own qualifying competition. UEFA, CAF, AFC, CONCACAF, and CONMEBOL all used league or play-off formats specific to their regions. The three host nations USA, Canada, and Mexico qualified automatically.
Argentina enter as the top-ranked team in the world and defending champions. France (#2), Spain (#3), England (#4), and Brazil (#5) round out the top five ranked nations in the tournament.
